How to remove “Powered by Text-Enhance” adds

At many blogs and spam detection pages on the internet, people are complaining about getting infected with a program that highlights chosen words on a webpage, and when hovering them with the cursor an add is appearing saying “Powered by Text-Enhance“.

The major problem here is that none of the spam killers or antivirus programs, not even known ones like Norton, Bullguard and … detect it as what it is – annoying spam that needs to get removed right away.

I personally got infected by installing an extension to Google Chrome webbrowser. Well I admit, I didn’t take my usual precaution and looked into the program before installing it. Never the less it was annoying, and not easy to get rid of, well that was until I understood from where I got the nuisance.

I could not find my actual problem on the internet, why I wrote this. I did though get some hints.

One good hint I got was to disable all the installed extension to Chrome, and then enable them one at a time, until the headache revealed itself.

I found in my case, that it came with an extension called “dislike it!”, a facebook dislike button. Well it sounded nice, and actually seemed like working – bit I was infected with this unwanted add blower.

So, all I had to do – fortunately, was to delete the Chrome extension and it is gone.

Hopefully I helped you save a lot of time, that I didn’t save.

Thank you for saving me hours of trying to figure out what’s wrong! My daughter has that same problem and it was also the “dislike it” plugin that was the cause. I just disabled that plugin and the links (after a refresh) are gone! Thank you.

    Thanks Nitram,

Removing Dislike-it seems to get the job done – no more weird links. I’ve been looking at my extensions in Firefox over and over but couldn’t find anything suspicious until I read this article. Removing the extension worked, thanks a lot!
